While the industry is consumed by theories of whether hip hop is too pop, the death of auto-tunes, or who will save hip hop, emerges from Florida’s capitol an exciting new talent “Jimi Nu”.
Jimi Nu of Tallahassee Florida became known as the ‘lyrical genius’ mastering word play and metaphors by the age of 16. After sharing the stage with Young Jeezy back in ‘09, he caught the eye of a Regional Promotions Manager for Atlantic Records Special Ops division, who didn’t hesitate to sign him to a management deal.
Several months later, there were talks with Capitol records and Warner Brothers. Unfortunately, a deal was never inked. Jimi states “This is when I began to understand how the industry can consume you, if you don’t have your business right”.
After unsuccessful attempts to reconcile differences with his manager, Jimi Nu proceeded to spend days and nights in recording studios and performing as an opening act throughout Florida for artists such as Rick Ross, Plies, Young Geezy & Trina.
After connecting with highly respected booking agent better known as “Coach”, who has been instrumental in breaking many rap artists in the south; Jimi saw his career begin to take off.
During the 4th quarter of ‘09, Jimi was introduced to executives from label imprint ‘Skiez Da Limit Records’. Label President, Jimmy Lanier states, “When I first heard this kid, I said ‘he got it’.” “There are a lot of rap artists out there, but not many with the talent, swagger, and charisma on the mic as Newtron”.
While striving for a potential chart-topping hit, Jimi Nu teamed with young talented super-producers ‘The Lottery’ out of Miami Florida to produce his first single release titled “My Own”. ‘The Lottery’ has produced records for Multi-Platinum recording artist Rick Ross, Young Money’s Grammy award winning artist ‘Nicki Minaj, & Miami based rapper Briscoe, just to name of few.
“Jimi Nu is setting pace to be among the trend of hot acts whose on the forefront of hip hop elites”, states Label VP of operations, Gerren Brookins. He further notes “although ‘singles’ appear to be the new trend for many rap artists, Newtron’s album will inaugerably be a chart-topping ‘Billboard Top 200’ success.
The single has been greeted with rave reviews by club DJs and radio programmers across the country. The record ‘My Own’ is available on iTunes and other major online music retailers. Look out for ‘Jimi Nu’ in his own lane.
